“Street photography helps us appreciate the small things in life, find the beauty in the ordinary, be more observant and see the world in a much more diligent and meaningful way.” – Nino Rakichevich
Join Sony Artisan Nino Rakichevich for his four-day workshop, "Street Photography: The Pure Photographic Pursuit" at the Palm Springs Photo Festival.
Orientation Sunday, May 3rd, 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Monday, May 4th Wednesday, May 6th, 9:00am – 4:00pm. Thursday, May 7th 9:00am – 11:00am
Street photography, also known as life photography, aims to capture everyday life in public places, particularly in urban landscapes. Street photography is frequently confused with documentary photography, another form of candid photography, that often takes place in public spaces. Although there’s a lot of overlap, documentary photography typically involves planning and structure, while street photography is spontaneous. Although often posed, portraits of random strangers in public are also considered street photography.
This workshop is focused on photographing street life and the colorful neighborhoods of Palm Springs and the surrounding areas (Cathedral City, Palm Desert, Indio and Beaumont). Each day we will explore different neighborhoods. The workshop is designed for everyone that would like to develop their skills and photograph people in a more purposeful way.
A skillful eye is only part of the photograph. Nino will share techniques to approach and interact with people to ensure you get that perfect shot even in a seemingly impossible situation. In addition to practical on location tips, Nino will talk about camera gear, color management and ways to monetize your street photography. Group critiques and sharing your daily experiences will also be part of the learning fun.
With the popularity of mirrorless cameras, street photography is now more prominent than ever. Laws and rules about photographing in public places are continually changing and photographers must be aware of them, especially when traveling outside of the US. Nino will present his street photography from Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Belgrade as well as photos from his ongoing project about the Roma People “Gypsies” in Europe.
You’re welcome to use your own gear, but SONY will make their cameras and lenses available for use in this workshop.
Includes daily registration, transportation and a boxed lunch for each full day of the workshop.
