Brandon Li’s YouTube channel has quickly become a mandatory destination for up-and-coming filmmakers. His dynamic short films routinely get Staff Pick and Best Of awards on Vimeo, and on YouTube, Li creates tutorials and answers questions about his gear and techniques.

In a recent tutorial, Li explains frame rates and how to choose the appropriate frame rate for a project. It can be a challenging topic for inexperienced filmmakers because of the many frame rates available in camera today. Sony cameras in particular offer a lot of frame rates in the menus. The RX100 V, for example, can record from 24fps up to 960fps (960 in short bursts at reduced resolution). Starting with the basics of frame rates and shutter speeds, Li explains how he uses different frame rates when he shoots and when and why he ramps versus shooting at a time-bending frame rate.

Also on the YouTube Channel, Li is posting some experimental and unfinished projects that never made it into fully realized productions.
