The Sony 16-55mm f/2.8 G lens has been named Editors’ Choice by Jim Fisher at PCMag.com. “We've used it in the field and tested it in the lab and have come away happy,” says Fisher. “It's an easy pick for our Editors' Choice, as it gives Sony APS-C system owners a true pro-grade standard zoom option.”

Fisher also notes how the linear focus motor technology found in the lens results in quick, accurate and very quiet autofocus. After testing he determined that the optics of the lens are outstanding.

“I tested the 16-55mm in the lab with the 24MP α6600 and Imatest software. Its resolution is outstanding, even wide open. At 16mm f/2.8, it notches 3,125 lines on average, and maintains an excellent resolution even at the edges of the frame (2,714 lines). The average trends upward as you narrow the aperture through f/8, peaking around 3,300 lines.”

“Resolution is steady throughout the zoom range. We also tested the lens at 35mm and 55mm. The raw numbers are close enough to the 16mm results at comparable apertures to not bear repeating. Simply put, the 16-55mm captures an incredible amount of detail, even when shot wide open, throughout its entire zoom range.”
