Create Your First Timelapse With These Simple Tips From A Timelapse Legend

If you’re new to timelapse and want to jump in, we give you the perfect teacher: Sony Artisan and timelapse legend Andrew Geraci. Geraci, has shot timelapse projects all over the world for major brands and Hollywood productions and it's fair to say that he's forgotten more about timelapse than most people have ever known. In this video, he shares a simple setup for those looking to create a cinematic timelapse. “...it’s as easy as just going into the menu and setting up what the interval is, as well as the number of shots that you want to take.” Watch below and visit the Sony Alpha Universe YouTube Channel for more video content for creators.

“When it comes to setting up for outside photography, let’s just say you want to capture the clouds, you want to be capturing at a 2-sec. interval with anywhere between a 1-1.5 second shutter speed. What’s that going to allow you to do is capture those beautiful clouds in a very cinematic way.”

You don’t have to overcomplicate your first timelapse. Keep it simple and make changes as you see fit. “It’s as easy as just getting a tripod, placing your camera on that tripod, and once you’re in Intervalometer Mode, you turn the camera to On, set your exposure – and you’re good to go.”

The Sony ZV-E1 has its own timelapse setting, and Geraci tested the camera in the videos below and created his own timelapse using the in-camera feature.
