3 Essential Tips For Beginner Portrait Photographers

Getting your start in portrait photography requires more than a camera and lens. In order to fully capture the personality of your subject and to create a successful portrait, a photographer needs to keep a few other things in mind. After photographing thousands of people over the course of two decades, professional portrait photographer and Sony Artisan Miguel Quiles has come to know just what these things are, and in this latest video, he shares the three most important.

Professional portrait photographer and Sony Artisan Miguel Quiles shares the top three tips you need to know when starting out in portrait photography.

“Pay attention to details,” explains Quiles. “This might seem like common sense, but I can’t tell you how many times I missed little details that ultimately had a big impact into how my photos turned out. One of the most common details that I would miss all the time was when someone had an elastic hairband around their wrist.”

“...it’s such an easy thing to miss and it can take valuable time in post-production to take them out. At the end of the day you’re responsible for 100% of the things that are placed within your frame.”
