Michael Rubenstein’s wife and her father share a special bond through the Chinese poem, Quiet Night Thought, by the great poet Li Bai. As Rubenstein describes, the poem is more than just a thoughtful diversion for them. “My father in law used to read Quiet Night Thought to my wife when she was young. It was her favorite poem and because they were living in America, far from their home in the south of China it was especially poignant.”

As a gift for his father in law and his wife, Rubenstein created a short film shot in 4K with the Sony α7S II. He explains, “I shot it in 4K because I wanted a higher quality image and a better dynamic range.”

Moonlight by the bed shines
Quiet night thoughts
So bright like frost upon the loam
The head lifts gazing at the moon
And sinks back down with thought of home
