We named Alabama Values as a recipient of the Create Action Grant to support their mission to shift narratives and empower communities. As recipients of the Create Action Grant, Alabama Values receives $50,000 in cash to continue and expand the organization's work, $50,000 in Sony Electronics products to support their action plan, and this Sony-produced short film telling their story:
Alabama Values is a nonprofit and nonpartisan grassroots communications and messaging hub that leverages culture, media and content to raise awareness and increase civic engagement around issues in Alabama and across the South.
“We also work with civic and grassroots organizations who are trying to break down barriers,” explains Anneshia Hardy, the organization’s executive director. “So we launch cool narrative initiatives and campaigns, and also make sure that they understand how to use tools such as storytelling. Storytelling is an act of resistance, especially for communities who are often pushed into the margins. Being able to tell our stories, it builds agency.”
Alabama Values also conducts qualitative and quantitative messaging research to inform and build messaging campaigns to uncover what motivates and demotivates communities in civic participatory activities.
