We named FamFrequency Productions as a recipient of the Create Action Grant to support their mission to shift narratives and empower communities. As recipients of the Create Action Grant, the organization receives $50,000 in cash to continue and expand their work, $50,000 in Sony Electronics products to support their action plan, and this Sony-produced short film telling their story:
FamFrequency Productions believes creative careers deserve the same level of support, opportunity and intentionality as any other profession. This organization uses research, evaluation and real-time learning to understand impact, strengthen programs and better serve young creatives across Philadelphia.
“We really noticed a gap in professional development for artists – about building that foundation of network and collaborators and skills,” explains Jonathan Edwards, founder of FamFrequency Productions. “There was obviously a lot of gatekeeping in music, so there weren’t a ton of mentors. And so we wanted to really bridge that gap – connect them to people who are actually doing that. Talk about their journey – mixing and mastering, collaborations, financial management.”
Their vision is to cultivate an inclusive music industry that enables all artists to build sustainable careers through their creative talent. Through focus areas including career preparation and job placement, personal and professional development, and economic mobility and entrepreneurial success, the organization empowers young people with the skills, resources, and relationships needed to build streams of income through music.
“I hope that they continue to chase their passions in a way that is also going to feed them. The main thing here is building creative entrepreneurs,” says Edwards.
