Edward Burtynsky, a Canadian photographer of Ukrainian descent, shares his Outstanding Contribution To Photography award with photographers In Ukraine.
Burtynsky’s photography shows large-scale images of industrial landscapes and other areas that have faced destruction by humans. While these areas are very much out of sight, out of mind for humans, his images have brought them to the forefront. He says photographers on the front line in Ukraine are doing the same by bringing the horrors into reality so the world doesn’t lose sight of what’s happening. Burtynsky’s works will be present at the Sony World Photography Awards 2022 exhibition at Somerset House, London from April 13 – May 2, 2022. Sony continues to support humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine and neighboring countries, and you can learn more about the relief fund here.
