Camera
FX3 (Buy Now): I really love this camera because I can film in S-Log3. I can shoot in 10-bit. I can shoot at 4K, 24, 60 and 120, which is my go-to style for my style of filmmaking. I like how compact it is – it just allows me to blend in more and it looks more like a photo camera.
Lenses
90mm f/2.8 Macro G (Buy Now): This is one of my favorite lenses. This is one of those lenses where like, if you’re a filmmaker, you kind of need this in your kit. You can get that super iconic eye shot. You can get super close up on bugs and insects too if you’re into that. But for me, being able to use this tool to both fly on a gimbal to get that 90mm tele look, but at the same time I can take it off a gimbal, throw it on a tripod and get my product shots.
70-200mm f/4 Macro G II (Buy Now): I still have the 70-200mm f/2.8 G Master II, but I just picked this up. It’s more lightweight and compact. For me, when I’m doing an overhead product shot, I can actually crank in to get those close details. And then if I’m traveling I also want to be lightweight and compact. This lens is like a gamechanger.
85mm f/1.4 G Master II (Buy Now): You get that f/1.4. You get that fast autofocus. For me at least, this gets the job done and it’s just super silky.
35mm f/1.4 G Master (Buy Now): If I had to pick one lens to go and film at night, it would be this one. It just has that lightweight, compact look and definitely one of my favorite lenses as well.
24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II (Buy Now): The focal length of having 24mm through 70mm and then filming at f/2.8 at the same time…this is the one right here. Especially if you’re just starting off, you probably get overwhelmed looking at all of these G Masters…look into this one.
16-35mm f/2.8 G Master II (Buy Now): For this, you just get that ultra-wide look. It just has a unique look for landscapes or establishing shots or B-roll. Even if I want to turn the camera around on me and I want to film myself X, Y and Z, the 16-35mm is a good go-to for me. I think this one probably comes second after the 24-70mm.
Accessories
Microcassette Recorder: I brought an old school Sony Microcassette Recorder. It’s the M-560V. I purchased this as a storytelling tool. I like to mix in old and new. For me at least as a storyteller, I like to understand the past so I have a better idea of the present and even the future.
FX3 Rig Setup & Accessories: Zoom H5 & Shotgun Attachment, Camera Clamp, PolarPro and Peter McKinnon ND Filters, Mantis Pod, Wrist Strap, Memory Cards.
Other Items: Peak Design Carbon Fiber Tripod, Lens Cloth, Listerine, Wet Lens Wipes, Ronin Rs4 Pro Gimbal, Walkman.
