Creator, director and Alpha Collective member L. Renee Blount leans on one lens more than any other: the 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II. It’s the lens she trusts when the day moves fast, the plan evolves, and the shot has to land on the first pass. Adventure shoot or commercial set. Same answer. “The 24-70mm is, to me, the quintessential tool,” she says. “I can do everything with it.”
Watch and read below to see the reasons why the 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II is the creator’s all-time favorite:
A Familiar Starting Point That Feels Like Home
L. Renee often settles around 35mm, as she says it’s the look a lot of us grew up with on TV. Natural. Honest. From there, she can nudge wider or tighter without swapping glass. “I think of 35mm as what you naturally reference,” she explains. “But being able to compress and go all the way out to 70mm and go down to 24mm means I’m able to play with distance.”

Range That Shapes Space In The Moment
The versatility of the 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II and its zoom span helps her cover it all. “With this lens,” she explains, “I’m able to play with compression. I’m able to make sure that I’m not missing anything. I can get details. I can zoom in.” See the breakdown of views from this single lens:
- 24mm for context: Set the scene. Bring in the environment. Keep the pace up.
- 35–50mm for the “real” view: Build connection with a perspective that feels familiar.
- 70mm for compression and detail: Tighten the frame. Stack the background. Nail product and portraits with intent.

One Lens That Carries the Day
L. Renee’s line of work keeps momentum. Portraits to product to action with no break in flow. That’s where the 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II really earns its spot. “It’s just my most powerful tool for adventure and commercial work,” she says. “I can do portraits. I can do close product. I can get far away. I may have to scoot back a little bit.”

Confidence That Comes From Time Together
The 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II was the first zoom L. Renee bought after moving off primes. It has stayed in her kit through new clients, new styles and new challenges. “For me, this is probably by far my most powerful tool and the tool that I’ve had the most comfort with because I’ve been using it the longest,” she says. “When I stopped using prime lenses, this is the one that I invested in first. And so, I think for me it’ll always have a bit of nostalgia but… it’s just that good.”
