The Josephine Herrick Project’s mission is to amplify underrepresented voices through photography, giving people the tools to see differently, communicate across cultures, and advocate for themselves and their communities. Through their programs they partner with more than 20 community-based organizations and schools, hiring professional photographers to teach hands-on technique, visual storytelling, and other artistic, technical, and life skills.
They approach photography as an opportunity for experiential learning, putting cameras in the hands of their participants from day one. In addition to teaching the technical skills in composition and exposure, they also see photography as a vehicle for other hard and soft skills. They aim to cultivate visual literacy, creativity, critical thinking, self-advocacy, and community engagement, all of which they see as critical to arts education.
Sony looks forward to working with Josephine Herrick Project and the opportunity to support their mission to amplify underrepresented voices through photography.
