Hybrid creator Nick Di Giugno (@toldbynick) has been a longtime user of the Alpha 7 IV, and with the release of the new Alpha 7 V camera – he knew he had to give it a try. “I’m already so familiar with this line of cameras, so this product feels like a very natural and welcomed upgrade,” he says. We caught up with him after he had some time with the camera, using it for product videography, talking head videos, vertical video creation – plus some interior photography and videography. Keep reading as he shares his Alpha 7 V review along with some of his favorite upgrades.
Nick’s Hands-On Review Of The Alpha 7 V
Nick is a creator who puts his gear through its paces, and after a ton of shooting with the new camera he’s named some features that really stood out to him. “I’m happy to see Dynamic Active mode come to this product,” he explains, “but even more exciting is how much better all of the stability modes are. The extra stops of IBIS are noticeable when filming handheld video, and even the Active stability does a much better (more accurate and more natural-looking) job than the predecessor.”
The speed and build of the Alpha 7 V was also a highlight for Nick. “It’s super fast (both the sensor and also the processor (being able to quickly navigate the UI, etc.) and it feels like the ergonomics have been ever so slightly refined. I’m not sure if that’s the case, but this new product just feels better in my hand than the previous model.”

He continues, “I also really love the new screen. Being able to keep the screen directly behind the sensor while tilting up and down makes a difference (to me) when composing shots and it just feels so much more intuitive not always having to look to the side to view my image.”
As for the image quality of the Alpha 7 V, Nick calls it absolutely excellent. “Something that stood out to me was how this sensor is handling tonal transitions and highlight rolloff. It’s producing images that are sharp and punchy while appearing very organic and not overly digital.”
Why Hybrid Creators Should Upgrade To The Alpha 7 V
As a hybrid creator, Nick says the Alpha 7 V blew him away with its improvements. “The video capabilities of this product make it not only an excellent hybrid camera, but actually a very compelling option for video-first creators,” he says. “It improves on the predecessor in essentially every way and I’m really happy to see options like Full Frame 4k 60, LUT support, and 4k 120.”

The Alpha 7 V fills in any gaps from previous models, and Nick says for hybrid shooting it just can’t be beat. “The previous model has been my primary camera, since I’m a hybrid shooter through and through. This new product has fixed nearly every major downside I had found on that previous model and opens up possibilities of shooting projects the previous model wouldn’t quite be able to handle. This product will certainly find a place in my kit.”
