The Alpha 7 V is engineered to expand creative possibilities for multi-passionate visual storytellers like Hannah Rheaume. The nature, wildlife and travel photographer/videographer had the chance to try out the camera while in Northern Manitoba. “I really feel this is a hybrid camera without compromise,” she says. “The images are portfolio quality and the video is strong quality for my commercial work. Meaning one camera can do the two things I need it to effortlessly. And that's really priceless.” We caught up with her to see the images she was able to capture and for more of her thoughts on the Alpha 7 V’s performance for both photo and video.

Alpha 7 V Field Test In Northern Manitoba
Hannah says she was impressed by the images she was getting with the Alpha 7 V while out in the wintry landscape. “I used the Alpha 7 V to photograph some compressed landscapes, polar bears and snowy owls. The image quality was fantastic. I was super impressed by the quality and sharpness of the jpegs and how far I was able to push them in post! Needless to say, I cannot wait to review the RAWs.” The paw image below is a JPEG crop from the full-bodied bear photo above, a testament to its quality.

Photographing birds and wildlife can be quite unpredictable, but Hannah says the Alpha 7 V kept up with the unbridled movement of the polar bears and owls. “I have the Dynamic active mode on my FX2 and was super impressed to be able to have this in a photo body,” she explains. “It really sings when there's a lot of uncontrolled motion, especially on a long lens! The autofocus was also fast and super accurate.”

A Versatile Camera For Photo & Video
Hannah says her favorite part about the Alpha 7 V is its versatility. “This camera fits into both my photo and video work. As I mentioned, it truly feels like a hybrid without compromise. The footage matches well with the footage out of my FX2 and I was super impressed. I’ll absolutely be adding this camera to my kit for this reason and for the simple fact that the images out of this product compliment the photos out of my Alpha 7R V and the video from my FX2 perfectly.”

Hannah looks forward to the stories she’ll be able to share using this new tool in her creator toolkit. “The Alpha 7 V feels like it was made for multi-passionate visual storytellers,” she explains. “Those that swap between video and photo but don’t want to sacrifice the quality of either. Those that photograph a variety of subjects. Those that crop in on their images sometimes, leave them wide sometimes. Those that find themselves using precarious angles. And shooting fast frame rates. Those that want to sometimes slow a moment way down. Visual storytellers like me, really.”
