We’re excited to announce the third year of the Create Action grant program. The 2023-2024 grant program will support local nonprofit organizations who submit the most compelling action plans designed to address or contribute to social justice causes over the next 12 months via photography, videography, filmmaking or a related field. The program is part of Sony’s broader social justice efforts, with funding sourced from the company’s Global Social Justice Fund. Grant Program Details

The 2023-2024 program has some changes from years past. This year the grant application opens on August 28, 2023, and will close on October 1, 2023. From there, Sony will award one grant per month through November 2023-March 2024, for a total of five grants awarded.

Grant winners will receive:

• $50,000 USD to use for the grant winner’s action plan
• $50,000 in Sony Electronics products

Grant winners will then collaborate with Sony to create a video/capture photographs to promote your organization, action plan and the grant program.

The Action Plan

This year’s application will require the submission of an Action Plan designed to address or contribute to social justice causes over the next 12 months via photography, videography, filmmaking or a related field. The Action Plan can be the organization’s plan, a new plan or an expansion of an existing plan.

The application will require a 250-word description about the plan and how your organization will utilize creators and the grant funds to implement it. You will also explain your Action Plan’s impact and list overarching needs in a budget. Check out the Create Action page for a complete description of application and submission requirements.

Who Should Apply?

The Create Action grant is intended for eligible non-profit organizations in the United States that are a 501(c)(3) with less than $500,00) annual operating revenue for 2021 and 2022. Create Action is designed to elevate artistic endeavors that are addressing social justice causes and will be judged by Sony, in its sole discretion, based on the following criteria:

• Action Plan Relevance to the Grant Program’s mission to focus on social justice causes (i.e., service to underserved and under-represented communities) over the next twelve months via photography, videography, filmmaking or a related field: 25%
• Action Plan proposed Impact: 15%
• Effectiveness of Budget Plan: 40%
• Sony Electronics Products Needs Description: 10%
• Application Clarity and Cohesiveness: 10%

The mission of Create Action is to amplify the efforts of local organizations through funding, storytelling, and collaboration with Sony.
