Not many have captured landscape and action photography quite like Don Smith. The Sony Artisan has made a living with his cameras over the past 44 years, starting as a professional sports photographer and transitioning into the world of nature and landscape photography. He loves to teach and share the experience of creating landscapes through his workshops, and his knowledge of Sony Alpha cameras makes him a great resource from which to learn. In this video, Smith walks through the Sony Alpha 1 menu step-by-step, sharing his camera setup for landscape and wildlife/action photography.
Professional landscape photographer and Sony Artisan Don Smith walks through his minimal menu settings for the Sony Alpha 1.
You might not think it when you first see his dynamic photography, but when it comes to camera settings, Smith considers himself a minimalist. He doesn’t like to get too involved in the technical aspects of a camera, and he especially doesn’t want to be thinking technical thoughts while composing an image. “Sony has done a terrific job on organizing their menus and making them far more logical, understandable and easier to go in and find things.”
