Brand Ambassador Vince Lim (@vincelimphoto) is a Hawaii-based landscape, travel and lifestyle photographer. Born and raised on the islands, he spends most of his time enjoying the beautiful scenery Hawaii has to offer. To capture the colorful landscape, he relies on his Sony Alpha 7R V and a set of G Master lenses. “In terms of optical excellence and accurate focusing, it doesn't get better than the G Master line,” he says. We caught up with him to learn more about the gear he uses to capture paradise in frame.

Camera
Sony Alpha 7R V: As a landscape, travel and lifestyle photographer, I've always preferred the R-series of the Alpha 7 system. Currently, I use the Sony Alpha 7R V, and it’s absolutely perfect for my needs. With 61 megapixels, it’s a photographer’s dream, and I can confidently say it's the best Sony camera I’ve ever used. One feature I feel is under appreciated is the screen, which can be positioned in virtually any angle. The lightning fast autofocus and video capabilities also make this camera a true all in one.

Lenses
Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 G Master II: This lens is the perfect choice for landscape photography, offering unparalleled sharpness and clarity across its entire focal range. At 16mm, you can really get creative at different angles that help you capture the full majesty of the landscapes you are shooting. I use the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 G Master II from the mountains to the coastlines, and even for underwater photography. The G Master II version really stands out with its superior optics, lightweight design, and build quality. This is one lens that would never leave my bag.

Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II: The Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II is a versatile lens that excels in a wide range of travel photography scenarios. Its flexible focal range allows you to seamlessly switch between wide-angle shots of stunning landscapes and close-up portraits with beautiful background bokeh. The constant f/2.8 aperture ensures excellent low-light performance, making it ideal for capturing everything from vibrant cityscapes at dusk to intimate moments. Additionally, its compact and durable design makes it easy to carry on the go, ensuring you’re always ready to capture the perfect shot, no matter where your travels take you.

Sony 35mm f/1.4 G Master: The Sony 35mm f/1.4 G Master is my go-to lens for lifestyle photography, low light conditions, and portraits. The 35mm focal length provides a natural perspective, perfect for capturing candid moments and dynamic compositions in lifestyle shoots. Its wide f/1.4 aperture excels in low light, allowing for stunning detail and vibrant colors even in challenging lighting conditions. When it comes to portraits, the lens produces a shallow depth of field that beautifully separates subjects, creating images with a cinematic quality and an engaging, intimate feel. I've really loved this lens the moment I got it, and the combination of versatility and beautiful bokeh makes it an indispensable part of my kit.

Accessories
Bag: Like most photographers, I have an obsession with acquiring new camera bags. I’ve lost count of how many I own, but it’s enough to fill an entire closet. If I were to narrow it down to just two brands, they would be Gitzo and Peak Design. The Gitzo bag pictured is perfect for walking around and everyday use. It’s designed to hold no more than a camera body and two lenses, but it meets most of my needs. When traveling and needing to carry a full camera kit, laptop, drone, and other gear, I usually opt for something 30 liters or larger to fit everything. Don’t forget to choose a bag with chest and hip straps for larger packs; they will save you on long treks and hikes.
Sony TOUGH Memory Cards: I've always relied on Sony TOUGH Memory Cards, which I believe are the best for my Sony system. I typically carry one spare in addition to the two cards in the memory slots of my Sony Alpha 7R V.
Memory Card Case: I found this carrying case from Japan, and I love it for its affordability and sturdiness.
Tech Organizer & AirTag: A tech organizer is always a great idea, especially for all the cables and chargers I carry around. My tip is to include an AirTag in your bag just in case.

Lens Filters: Depending on the situation and what I’m shooting, I use both drop-in and screw-on filters. Since I’m often by the water, I always bring a circular polarizer to reduce glare. I’ve been really enjoying halation filters, like the black pro- mist, which diffuse light for a unique effect. The way light sources appear with this filter adds an extra dimension to my photos.
Cleaning Kit, Rocket-style Air Blower, Lens Wipes, Microfiber Cloth: I firmly believe that keeping your glass and sensor clear of dust and smudges is a basic habit that goes a long way.
Notepad: I always carry a notepad to jot down thoughts or reminders.
Although not pictured, some other essential items I always bring with me include sunglasses, sunscreen, a small towel and a protein bar for when I get hungry on the go.
