How To Change The Background In A Portrait (Part 2 of 2)

Synopsis

In part two of this two-part tutorial, we’ll fine tune the composited portrait that Sony Artisan Chris Orwig originally photographed with his Sony α7R III and 24-70mm G Master lens.

In part one, we started in Lightroom before moving the images over to Photoshop where we removed the subject from her background using Quick Select, and Select & Mask. Now, we’ll bring it all home adjusting color balance and curves and adding a bit of a gradient and a few other adjustments.

These techniques are easier than you might think and can take a portrait that might have been destined for deletion and make it into a keeper.

July is Portrait Month at Alpha Universe. See how you can be part of the #SonyAlphaPortrait challenge.
