Colby Brown
“If you want Sony’s fastest camera, no other options comes close to the power and speed of the A9 III. A first of its kind, the A9 III has the world’s first full-frame global shutter. This technology allows for the A9 III to do things other cameras simply can’t, such as capture photos & video with LEDs with zero banding or use shutter speeds up to 1/80,000-second.”

“For me, this camera is a great technological advancement in terms of digital cameras helping me get the shot. It was almost too easy. I don't know if we should say that, but it was almost too easy. The pre-record feature is huge. I just don’t think I realized I would miss things until I went back and looked at the photos. The results were far and beyond better than anything I've ever gotten. This camera helps me get the shot, period and done.”

“With global shutter and unlimited flash speed sync you can control background illumination with the shutter speed instead of the aperture, and you can control depth of field with the aperture and subject illumination with a combination of the aperture and flash output. So the global shutter allows you to shoot at lower f/stops and higher shutter speeds to control the light and depth of field.”

Tony Gale
“This camera is magic! With the global shutter, 120fps in RAW and pre-capture it is fantastic when I am traveling and hoping to see animals, birds and my two-year-old daughter! The global shutter allows for flash at any shutter speed and a silent shutter with no rolling shutter, or banding. The 120fps is great for fast moving or unpredictable subjects, and with pre-capture it becomes an even more powerful tool. It is absolutely incredible what Sony has created with this camera.”

The pre-capture in the Sony Alpha 9 III makes photos like this possible for me. I have tried to do this many times over the years and always missed the photo until this camera. Plus the reach of the 100-400mm is fantastic. Photo by Tony Gale. Sony Alpha 9 III. Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master. 1/2500-sec., f/5.6, ISO 6400

“All in all, I can honestly say that I’ve never put so much trust into a camera as I do with this one. Instead of losing precious moments of fleeting light to figuring out camera set-up technicalities or becoming frustrated when I can’t get the focus right on the first several tries, the Sony Alpha 9 III has made my photography process so much easier. Which, in turn, has made it easier for me to be more present in front of the camera – back among the source of my inspiration. Where I can connect with nature and be awed by it, and still easily create and capture these moments that mean so much to me.”

“My go-to body for the fastest sequences. The global shutter sensor eliminated any distortion and banding, making it perfect for tracking quick plays, and shooting the big LED signage in the stadium. See in the photo below, Inter Miami’s best chances came from Lionel Messi, who missed a shot, and Tadeo Allende, who missed a golden opportunity with only the goalkeeper to beat. Using the Alpha 9 III and 300mm f/2.8 G Master, I tracked the plays without distortion thanks to the global shutter. The 120 fps burst rate captured every expression of frustration and intensity as the chances slipped away.”

“Shooting with the Alpha 9 III is a game changer. With the world’s first full-frame global shutter sensor, it can capture at 120 frames per second without distortion. Combined with real-time recognition autofocus there is a noticeable different in number and quality of shots your able to capture. The camera is able to find and focus on the subject even when their faces are hidden by spray, shadows, or neoprene. the ocean doesn’t wait for focus, so having a system that just finds and holds the subject is the difference between missing the story and preserving it. Moreover, five-axis image stabilization and Active Mode keep the frame steady, even when I’m moving through swell.”

Patrick Murphy-Racey
“I used two Sony A9 III camera bodies with vertical grips for this game. Because the global shutter in each allows me to sync flash at any shutter speed, I could use a set of battery powered strobes set to 1/8 power, a set of sport reflectors, and some Pocket Wizards to link them all together. There is quite literally no still full-frame camera made that can do the things that the A9 III can do with strobes. The A9 III exists, at least for now, as a sole source provider for sports photographers shooting on strobes. It’s not just that it has no equal, there is no other camera that can make this photograph.”

Dan Carr
“Once my target eagle made the drop from its perch, growing larger and larger in my viewfinder as it shot seemingly straight at me, I deployed my other secret weapon: the 120fps burst rate on the Alpha 9 III. This speed gave me an unprecedented number of options when choosing the best, most dramatic-looking wing position for the final edited image. Typical flight shots look best when the bird's wings are fully extended up or down. In this case, I was thrilled to see the bird tuck its wings and tilt them back to control its fast descent from the perch. The result is a unique shot, with unusual wing positioning that reveals incredible detail, as the eagle seems to look right down the lens.”

Dusty Cressey
“I’ve been using the Alpha 9 III and it feels like a big leap forward,” he says. “The global shutter that freezes fast action, real-time recognition autofocus that allows me to lock onto my subjects, five-axis image stabilization that keeps my shots sharp even when I’m shooting handheld or in low-light situations. This camera keeps up with how I shoot, so I can focus on telling the story.”

“It almost doesn't matter where my autofocus point is…I just kind of wave the Sony Alpha 9 III, and it catches an eye, and the focus just stays on that eye. It's beyond brilliant. And if someone turns away and you lose the eye and it's just on their head, the camera compensates. On a movie like Saturday Night where we had so many background actors, all the stagehands, and people walking through, I still wouldn't lose my actor with others walking through my frame.”

Michael Rubloff
“The A9 III makes it very easy because it has a global shutter and this very high frame rate,” he says. “The faster you’re able to capture some of these scenes, the more likely it is that nothing shifts or moves in front of it. When you’re capturing something in 3D, if something moves in it, it will look strange from that angle because it will reconstruct whatever it sees. So the faster you can capture something, the higher likelihood of it being a really strong reconstruction.”
He continues, “With other camera systems, depending on how many frames I’m trying to shoot, sometimes I would hit the memory buffer and the camera wouldn’t be usable for that couple of seconds. With the A9 III, this is just one less thing to worry about. You're really trying to capture the world around you in an expedient way, and it's very helpful to have a memory card slot that can go as fast.”

Zabrina Deng
“I love capturing both action and static shots in fashion photography. This particular shot, taken at night in San Francisco's Chinatown, features Wilson and Sarah riding their motorcycles through the narrow alleys. Utilizing the world's first global shutter camera, the Sony Alpha 9 III, I can use any brand of speed light to freeze the subjects in motion. This was crucial for capturing the dynamic movement as they sped through the alley, allowing me to shoot at a much higher shutter speed than traditional cameras with rolling shutters, which are limited to 1/200-sec.”

Rachel Jones Ross
“When the sun comes up, the Sony Alpha 9 III really shines. It’s incredibly fast. With the world’s first ever global shutter full-frame image sensor, this camera can shoot at 120 fps with no blackout. There was a time when I would never have imagined needing a camera that fast, especially given that my passion is for the slow pace of night photography. However, my understanding of photography has grown with experience. Ultimately, photography is about connection to the subject, and that ability to grab your camera and shoot quickly means you won’t miss that moment of connection, regardless of whether that connection is the look your child gives you, that split second of light that makes you feel alive, or that rare, fleeting encounter with a creature in the wild. The Sony Alpha 9 III is a truly versatile camera that enables me to pursue all facets of my work in photography from night to day.”

“For me, the Alpha 9 III not only surpasses the previous bodies in the Alpha 9 series, it raises the bar SO HIGH up for everybody. When it comes to action photography and birds in flight, I rely on the Alpha 9 III. 120 fps in uncompressed RAW is crazy unbelievable. The pre-capture feature with multiple custom time options is a blessing. The focus tracking and the artificial intelligence implemented in the focusing system is path-breaking. I just love this camera for the ability to shift from slower frames per second like 5 / 10/ 20 fps to blazing fast frames per second like 60 / 90 / 120 fps, with the all new C5 custom button’s one push!”

Jeven Dovey
“It’s a great hybrid camera because it’s a still camera, but also is packed full of video features. Global shutter is massive for any sort of like handheld movement. You just never have rolling shutter with this. You get 10-bit log out of this camera. You get 4K all the way up to 120 frames per second with no crop. And with the native ISO being at 2000, it allows me to shoot at darker situations and still be able to get a good looking image. So you’re not sacrificing anything to be able to use all the different modes that you would need to shoot documentary.”

“On the Alpha 9 III, I even set the autofocus to Bird Eye AF and it was picking up the shark’s eye. The sharpness is insane, night and day from the old stuff. I’m not seeing chromatic aberration – even wide open.”

“The global shutter is amazing. I can shoot during rehearsal and whenever I want, because the camera’s not making any noise. There was no situation where I was thinking I can’t get the shot. Fast autofocus, stable battery life, and color-true files meant quick handoffs to publicity and marketing. And the Alpha 9 III's nimble silence made his favorite kind of coverage possible: People ask, ‘Have you done any shots today, Bradley?’ I’ve shot about a thousand pictures – but you didn’t notice, because that’s my job.”
