For over 50 years Andy Katz has been in love with photography. He’s traveled the globe taking pictures and is one of the original Sony Artisans of Imagery. His work has been featured on album covers and in museums and galleries around the world. His impressive resume and experience makes him a great candidate to try out new gear. That’s why Sony gave him the opportunity to shoot with the new α7R IV in advance of its introduction. “This camera is a game breaker. It's absolutely the most amazing camera I've ever experienced. When I received the α7R IV from Sony, no one told me anything about it other than the impressive amount of megapixels. The first day I was shooting out in the middle of a lake on a foggy day and I saw something that looked a little like a bird, but I couldn’t tell exactly what it was. I took a photo and when I got home and back to my computer I zoomed in and it was a bald eagle and the beak was sharp. It was just phenomenal.”

“All megapixels are not created equal, and these are just badass megapixels. The tonality, the sharpness and the detail are just so extraordinary in this camera – it really is eye opening. The camera is also built beautifully. I love the way it handles and the grip is better. They've also improved some of the buttons and advanced the in-body image stabilization system up to 5.5 stops, allowing you to handhold it at a very low shutter speed.”

“The α7R IV is huge for me because I make a lot of large prints and this is going to take it to a new level. I think large prints are incredibly powerful. Even if you’re not making large prints, the kind of freedom you get as a photographer with this resolution is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. When I teach, I try to tell everyone to keep as much in the frame so you don't have to crop, but sometimes you just do. To be able to take a section of a photo and still produce an amazing print gives you a real advantage.”
