The Photography Staff of the Associated Press (AP) is the winner of a 2024 Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography. The images that earned them the Pulitzer were taken throughout 2023 and documented an important migration story. The Pulitzer Board chose their work, calling the winning images "poignant photographs chronicling unprecedented masses of migrants and their arduous journey north from Colombia to the border of the United States."
The Pulitzer Prize marks an exciting highlight to an already standout awards season for the organization. According to the AP, "Today’s Pulitzer caps a tremendous awards season for the AP for a variety of stories. Renata Brito and Felipe Dana’s powerful, visually-led investigation 'Adrift' – another package that highlights AP’s commitment to covering international migration – recently won the Overseas Press Club award for digital storytelling and a World Press Photo regional award; Ebrahim Noroozi also won a regional World Press Photo award for his coverage of Afghanistan. The global religion team has won two major awards for its package on 'The Nones' – the surging number of people worldwide who are nonbelievers or unaffiliated with any organized religion. And Mstyslav Chernov’s harrowing film '20 Days in Mariupol' won both an Oscar and a BAFTA for best documentary."
Since 2021, the Associated Press has been using Sony cameras to tell the most important and poignant stories of people around the world. From reporting on events that affect millions of people to documenting intimate moments that make us feel fundamentally connected to one another, their dedicated staff and contributors work to visually capture the fleeting moments in time that embody the essence of the story.
