We are excited to announce Witness Change as the latest recipient of a Sony Create Action Grant. The Atlanta-based nonprofit organization exists to end human rights violations for marginalized communities through visual storytelling. “We believe in amplifying the voices of survivors of oppression to humanize the abuse they endure. We collaborate with experts and advocates to transform opinions, open minds and change policies.” As winners of the grant, the organization will receive $50,000 in cash to continue and expand their work, a custom short film telling their story, $50,000 in Sony Electronics products to support their action plan, and collaboration and partnership with Sony.

Witness Change uses visual storytelling to support excluded people reclaim their narrative and improve their lives. In 2021 they launched their refugee project, 1000 Dreams. The project trains refugees to become visual storytellers and uses the stories they document to change prevailing harmful refugee narratives. The project had a powerful impact in Europe, and now the winners of the Create Action grant will be able to begin their 1000 Dreams program project in the United States.
Sony looks forward to working with Witness Change to support their mission to create a more just world by sharing stories that positively impact the lives of marginalized people.
