When it comes to sports portrait photography, Brad Deel knows what he needs to capture the perfect shot. Recently, he got his hands on the new Sony 50-150mm f/2 G Master lens, and it didn’t take long for him to realize its potential. "That 50–150mm range is such a sweet spot — it’s just so versatile," he says. As a sports portrait photographer, this could replace my 50mm, 85mm, 135mm primes and everything in between.”

Deel often finds himself shooting in tricky lighting situations, like dimly lit high school gyms or those challenging Friday night football games. For him, the f/2 maximum aperture is a lifesaver. It lets him shoot with faster shutter speeds and lower ISO settings while creating that dreamy bokeh that makes his subjects pop. "The extra stop of light is incredibly valuable," he explains, which makes a world of difference when capturing those special moments.

Deel says he can’t wait to add the 50-150mm f/2 G Master permanently to his collection. One of the highlights was a series of portraits he took of his son, a high school senior who’s passionate about music. With his son in a new varsity jacket and holding his beloved French horn, these photos captured a meaningful moment in their lives. "These photos mean so much to me, showing his hard work, his passion, the ending of one chapter of life, and the beginning of a new one," Deel shares. “This lens really helped me bring out the emotion in these shots, with beautiful detail and depth that made the images feel even more personal.”

All of the expected traits of a Sony G Master lens – extreme sharpness, speedy autofocus, and silky smooth bokeh – all shine in the new 50-150mm f/2 GM. "This lens truly upholds the G Master name," Deel says. And when it comes to picking a favorite feature, well – that’s a decision he doesn’t see the need to make. "Can there really just be one single thing?,” he asks. “That F2 combined with the versatility of a 50mm to 150mm, not to mention the sharpness. It’s almost like a Lay's potato chip — you can’t just have one.”

As he looks forward to using this lens more, Deel makes his enthusiasm known. We asked him if the Sony 50-150mm f/2 G Master is here to stay in his photography kit. His response? "In a word, DUH!!!"
