"This is a great focal length for portrait photographers. It’s beautiful for 3/4 length portraits while still staying at a comfortable distance to your subjects, allowing for a better, more intimate experience overall. I loved several of the portraits I created with this lens. In the studio, I usually shoot with the 24-70 and using the fixed 50mm made me concentrate more on composition and be very intentional in my shooting. I loved the results!" – Monica Sigmon

"I like 50mm for street photography or in my case you could say 'Beach Photography' since I took it to Venice Beach. It neither expands the scene like an ultra-wide or compresses like a telephoto. Simply shows you a straight honest perspective. I laugh when I hear someone refer to a superzoom like a 24-300mm as a 'walk-around lens.' That’s the last thing I’d ever want to walk around with. Give me a light, sharp fifty and I’ll use my feet to zoom." – Brian Smith

"Like many students of photography, It’s the focal length I started with, and it’s the focal length I’ve returned back to in terms of the lens I grab the most often. There’s just something about the way a 50mm renders perspective similar to how the human eye sees. 50mm makes your photos feel alive, like you can reach in and touch the scene." – Chad Wadsworth

"I like working within confines, hence why I prefer to shoot fixed focal lenses in general. I specifically like the 50mm because it's great for portraits as well as the idea of how it's similar to the focal length at which humans see. I think this 50mm 1.4 is a fantastic addition to the arsenal of Sony lenses. I think my main takeaway is that I'm constantly baffled how Sony lenses just prove to get better and better over the years." – Jeremy Cohen

"50mm is a focal point that has a broad range of utility. It’s a lens that you could photograph an entire wedding with. It has the right compression for couples portraits and detail shots, and gives you enough room to work in small spaces and capture group shots." – Kesha Lambert

“It’s a great portrait lens and I loved the perspective. The 1.4 allows for gorgeous bokeh in any portrait situation. It’s sharp, fast and LIGHT! It’s a great lens to take on location!” – Monica Sigmon

"It's nice to have 1.4 when you need it - but you can always stop down when you don’t. The autofocus is wicked fast and deadly accurate paired with the Sony Alpha 7R V. It also offers the incredible image quality of the Sony 50mm f/1.2 G Master in a smaller, lighter...and cheaper package." – Brian Smith

"I think Sony hit it out of the park with the new 50mm GM. With so many 50mm lenses in the current lineup, this lens really had to earn its place and I think it does for several reasons. Optically, it fits right in-line with the Sony formula of extreme resolution balanced by the creamiest of bokeh. They’ve delivered this formula with so many of the GM primes and it has really become a signature. It amazes me that in the span of a few years, Sony has become the premier lens manufacturer in the mirrorless space." – Chad Wadsworth

"I'd say the standout aspects for me were the bokeh, sharpness and construction. I took some photos of my friend, Rebeca, at a cafe and the lights in the background made for an incredible bokeh effect when I shot at 1.4. I loved it, not sure how I could imagine a better 50mm. Dare I say, it's perfect?" – Jeremy Cohen

"This lens is all-around impressive. The AF motor is fast, quiet and accurate. I used it for three different portrait sessions – an engagement session, a maternity session and a group portrait. There was a series of portraits I captured of a couple where I was shooting against the sun, and I was amazed that there was little or no lens flare in those images." – Kesha Lambert

"The newest generation of linear AF motors are just insane - so quick, accurate and silent. It's probably my favorite standout feature because the motors are designed to keep pace with the latest high-speed AI assisted camera AF systems so it's a synergistic feature that results in the best autofocus performance I’ve ever used." – Chad Wadsworth

"It's a great size and weight and nails focus before you can even think about it. As with all G Master lenses it’s not just about the incredible sharpness – it’s the look! Other lenses may give you one or the other - but only Sony G Master gives you both." – Brian Smith

"My favorite thing about this lens is the size. I really value how small and lightweight gear is in general. The lighter and smaller something is, oftentimes that will mean that its lower quality. With this lens, it’s lighter and smaller, yet the highest quality which is awesome." – Jeremy Cohen

"Every photographer should have a 50mm in their bag and this one hits the sweet spot of performance, size and price. The single best thing about this lens is that it is so well feature balanced: Compactness, Speed, Construction - both the well defined GM design language, as well as the quality of build, UI features, Resolution, Bokeh and Price." – Chad Wadsworth
