We are excited to announce the Wai’anae Economic Development Council (WEDC) as the newest recipient of a Sony Create Action Grant. The Hawaii-based nonprofit’s work increases opportunities for Native Hawaiians and Wai’anae Coast residents by developing the community’s rich natural, cultural and human resources. As winners of the grant, the organization will receive $50,000 in cash to continue and expand their work, a custom short film telling their story, $50,000 in Sony Electronics products to support their action plan, and collaboration and partnership with Sony.

The WEDC is a premier community economic development agency and a leader in the community development field for its collective approach to community planning, capacity building, financial services and business development. Their overall goal is to create an ongoing, sustainable and long-term community planning entity to take responsibility for community planning and the development needs on the Wai’anae Coast.
With the belief that local organizations can make the most significant and direct impact in their communities, the WEDC’s emphasis is on organizations committed to solving local issues, such as STEAM, academic enrichment, workforce development, community and civic engagement and non-profit services for underserved and under-represented communities. Through workshops, programs and more, the organization works toward their goal is to create lasting positive change within those communities.
