Jared VanderMeer is a wildlife photographer based on Vancouver Island in Canada. “As a wildlife photographer, it’s my job to capture nature and wildlife moments – and to be a little educational and entertaining,” he says. “You see for me, it’s all about capturing the angles, the behavior, and of course – the action.” In order to do so he’s been using a powerhouse high-resolution camera: the Sony Alpha 7R V. Watch as he shares why it’s his go-to choice for wildlife photography.
The Perfect Setup For Handheld Wildlife Photography
VanderMeer pairs the Sony A7R V with his Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G to photograph birds on the island. He says when it comes to his equipment, he looks for three main things: Resolution, reach and speed. But when it comes to this setup, it’s not even his favorite part. “It’s the up to eight stops of stabilization in the body, and the internal stabilization on the lens,” he explains. “I primarily shoot handheld so those two features let me get the most out of this kit.”
A Resolution Beast
While capturing stunning footage and images of birds in action, you can see how the Sony A7R V is a high-resolution camera that delivers sharp results for VanderMeer. “61 megapixel photos and up to 8K 24 frames video – this is a resolution beast.” He's not the only one who thinks so.
