Brooklyn-based photographer and Alpha Collective member Jeremy Cohen captures both photos and videos with his Sony Alpha 1. Watch as he shares why it’s his go-to camera for hybrid shooting (and explore lenses for hybrid shooting here):
Cohen says that the Sony Alpha 1 is incredibly reliable and trustworthy, and that he loves it for many reasons. “One of the main features I love about it is that it shoots in 10-bit 4k for video. And for photos, how I feel like I can shoot really fast and nail autofocus in any given moment.”
The autofocus features found in the Sony Alpha 1 are helpful for Cohen and the variety of subjects he comes across in the city. “I mainly switch between Zone Autofocus and Center Autofocus and a little bit of Spot Autofocus, depending on what I’m shooting and whether the subject is moving or staying in frame. I utilize the Eye Autofocus feature because I shoot a lot of portraits and people, and it can lock in right on the eye – especially when I’m shooting at a wide aperture.”
He also likes to use the Sony Alpha 1 for concert photography, as he explains in his What's In My Bag article. “The Sony Alpha 1 is the best camera I have ever bought. It has a 50.1-megapixel full-frame sensor, and that with its incredible auto focus makes it the perfect camera to capture fast-moving performers with incredible accuracy! The image quality, low-light performance and dynamic range are impressive. Basically all of the specs of the Alpha 1 make for a great camera to capture concert moments with stunning detail and clarity, even in challenging lighting conditions.”

Not only that, but the Sony A1 helps him keep up with the high energy of a performer on stage. “When you're photographing live music, I would recommend utilizing the Alpha 1’s high-speed burst mode for capturing those fleeting moments of excitement and energy, ensuring that you never miss a crucial shot. This has helped me capture those in-between moments where anything can happen.”
