Sony’s E-mount system is renowned for its innovation and versatility in the world of digital photography, and according to creator Miguel Quiles, it’s one of the biggest reasons that you should consider a Sony camera today. In the video below, the pro portrit photographer, YouTuber and Sony Artisan lays out distinct advantages that the E-mount system offers and why they matter. One Mount Across Cameras
Whether it’s APS-C or full-frame, Sony’s E-mount allows you to have one mount that can grow with you. “With Sony’s E-mount, let’s say that you’re starting out with something like an APS-C camera, like this Alpha 6700, and a 10-20mm f/4 lens. Maybe some time passes and you decide to transition to a full-frame camera like the Alpha 7CR. Because the E-mount across these cameras are the same, you can take that APS-C lens and you can use it on your full-frame camera body.” Likewise if you decided to take on cinematography and want to use a camera like the Sony FX9, you can again use that same APS-C lens on a cinema line camera.
Lens Selection
Sony has had the Sony E-mount system for over a decade, and the lineup has grown to more than 70 first party lenses and counting to choose from. “The E-mount system has lenses for every application,” explains Quiles. “From wide-angle lenses, to long telephoto lenses, and everything in between. Along with some of the best optics on the market today, getting into a Sony camera opens you up to a wide ecosystem of high-performance lenses that give you the very best autofocus and image quality available today.”
