These Creators Share Insights Into The Subjects That Get Them Going

The Sony community at large is comprised of supportive and insightful content creators who constantly share information and tips into how they find success. This community lives in various pockets of the Internet including the Sony Alpha Universe Community Forums, Sony Alpha Female Facebook group and on YouTube. As we move into the latter half of January, many of us may be starting to waiver a bit on our new year’s resolutions so to help keep morale high, we’ve gathered a list of Sony creators sharing insights into their favorte subjects and how to capture them with a camera and lens. One (or more) of these creators will have some insight and inspiration that is bound to help keep you and your goals going strong. Michael Shainblum

Michael Shainblum is a photographer and filmmaker based in San Francisco. On his YouTube Channel he posts weekly landscape photography vlogs that share the behind-the-scenes of his journey to different beautiful places. He has a strong artistic eye and shares many explainer videos to help you up your landscape photography. Michael shoots with the Sony Alpha 1, Sony Alpha 7S III and Sony 16-35mm f/4. In the video below, he talks about how he pushed himself to continue growing as a landscape photographer. We love how he pushes the idea of what a landscape image is – including detail images that bring out the texture of a place.

Megan Tan

Megan Tan is a cinematic content creator based in Germany. She started making cinematic vlogs and filmmaking tutorials on YouTube during the pandemic, and it has now grown into a full time career.  She studied film and media arts and brings that artistic eye to her social media content. She describes it as a “digital portfolio.” Megan shoots with the Sony Alpha 7 III, which was her first camera. Since starting, she’s kept the same camera but has upgraded lenses to the Sony 24mm f/2.8. In the video below, she describes her journey and shares her tips on how to start as a YouTuber with 0 followers. Megan is quite vulnerable in this vlog, talking through how she isn’t proud of the first few videos she made and talking about her insecurities. Megan grew to 100,000 subscribers in less than 6 months, so she definitely knows what she’s talking about! 

Sean Dalton

Sean Dalton is a lifestyle, travel photographer and teacher that is based in Indonesia. His work is full of his adventures and exploration of new and familiar places, as well as the people he meets along the way. His observations of people and places reflect his love for traveling and the relationships he forms while doing so. Sean relies on the Sony Alpha 7 IV, Sony Alpha 7S III, Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master, Sony 35mm f/1.4 G Master, Sony 55mm f/1.8, Sony 85mm f/1.4 G Master, Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 G Master and Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 G Master. In the video below, he talks about how he makes a living as a full-time travel photographer. We really appreciate Sean’s transparency, he breaks down where all his income comes from, and gives tangible tips on where you should start if you’re interested in a similar job.

Kraig Adams

Kraig Adams is a filmmaker, hiker, and minimalist living in Brooklyn, NY. He is revered by his over 745,000 subscribers for his content as well as his major hikes. Kraig goes on hikes, big and smalls and creates content on his adventures. In 2023, he hiked over 600 miles and roughly 3,000 tracked miles of hiking since 2017. In the video below he breaks down all the gear he uses while hiking. If you’re interested in creating similar content but are feeling overwhelmed with the gear, packing, and all the needed tools, this is the place to start! Kraig shares that he shoots with the Sony Alpha 7S III, he loves the quality and the low light performance. He pairs this with the Sony 16-35mm f/4

Laura BC

Laura a photographer and creative director. 10 years ago, she decided to become a photographer and work in the creative industry. “After a few years of struggle, I managed to become a full-time freelance photographer and creative director doing what I love every single day.” On her YouTube, she helps her audience make a living from their creative skills and she shares her solo adventures around the world. Laura’s channel is a treasure trove of great information for those just starting out. We particularly love the video below, where she discusses habits for becoming a professional photographer. These habits range from finding clients to having faith in yourself. We love these nuggets of information and Laura’s positive attitude.
