Cameras
Alpha 7R V (Buy Now): The Alpha 7R V is my main camera. Its 61-megapixel full-frame sensor delivers exceptional detail, making it ideal for producing large, gallery-quality prints with stunning clarity. This high megapixel count also provides flexibility for creative cropping, enabling single-shot wildlife panoramas that retain sharp detail even at large print sizes. The sensor’s impressive dynamic range captures nuanced tones in dramatically lit landscapes, making the Alpha 7R V a versatile tool for both wildlife and landscape photography.

Alpha 7R IV (Buy Now): This has become my second body since upgrading to the Alpha 7R V. It has the excellent resolution and image quality that is synonymous with the R line of Alpha cameras. I can grab either camera and know I’ll be able to get big, beautiful prints.

Lenses
12-24mm f/2.8 G Master (Buy Now): The 12-24mm is an incredible ultra wide lens that is perfect for shooting the grand landscape, and my favorite lens for photographing whales. It’s a great lens when you have a big subject at close distance.

16-35mm f/4 G PZ (Buy Now): I bought this before my last trip to Africa to pair with the RMT-P1BT Bluetooth remote and a monopod for low angle shots of wildlife walking close to the vehicle. The remote allows me to zoom the lens and fire the camera wirelessly. It’s also a great lens for landscape photography. It doesn’t have the bulbous front element like the 12-24, so it’s easier to use filters with.

24-105mm f/4 G (Buy Now): Extremely versatile and stabilized. It’s my go to if I want a lightweight one lens solution for hiking. The zoom range of this lens is well suited for the wide open spaces of the American Southwest where I live. This is the lens I use whenever I want to make a stitched panorama.

Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master (Buy Now): This is a very nimble telephoto for handheld wildlife photography. A great lens for tracking fast moving animals. It’s lightweight and compact for the focal range. It’s also my go to lens for longer landscapes and moon photography.

200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G (Buy Now): My favorite lens for wildlife. It’s got great reach on the long end for when you can’t get close to your subject, and the zoom makes it incredibly versatile when you’re shooting from a safari vehicle or blind. You can’t always adjust your distance to the animal if it’s moving, so the zoom allows you to compose the shot you want from a static position.

Accessories
RMT-P1BT Wireless Remote Commander (Buy Now): I use this Bluetooth remote for astrophotography and long exposure landscapes. It eliminates any shake you’d get from pressing the shutter button on the camera. As I mentioned earlier, my favorite use for this remote is to pair it with the 16-35mm PZ lens. I can put my camera on a monopod and use the remote to zoom the lens and fire off a shot. It’s great for low angle wildlife shots.
Drone: I’ve used a variety of drones over the years for scouting and video.
Shimoda Bags: I have several of their bags and I swear by them. They’re extremely durable, comfortable, and customizable.
Kase Magnetic Filters: High quality Polarizer and ND filters. Very easy to switch from lens to lens.
