20 Photographers Who Rely On The Sony A7R V

Bret Blakely

“The ISO range and low light performance is huge since I am most often shooting dusk, dawn and astro. The in-body stabilization, AF, and AI subject recognition is a game changer for capturing wildlife and one of the most notable aspects of this camera’s performance. The addition of focus bracketing is incredibly unique and makes the process out in the field that much easier. The fully articulating screen is not to be downplayed either. It really helps when trying to capture a scene with a unique perspective where a non-fully articulating screen would make it hard to see what your camera is seeing properly.”

Justin Niu

“It is the perfect camera for when I want to do large prints. When photographing wildlife, it is important to respect the space of the animals and to keep a safe distance from the wildlife and not to disturb them. As a result, photos taken will tend to be from far distance which often requires cropping-in during the post-processing of the photos. I find having a high megapixel camera like this is not only perfect for preserving the detail and sharpness, but also essential.”

Kyle van Bavel

“The Sony Alpha 7R V is my main camera. This strong, compact camera is coming with me on every walk. I’m in love with the 61mp, as this allows me to get the best and sharpest macro shots. It also allows me to come even closer to my subject if I want without losing quality. The flip screen is helping me to get really low on the ground and gives me a clear view on how the picture would turn out.”

Kesha Lambert

“The Sony A7R V is my go-to camera specifically for portraits. I love to experiment with creative crops and this camera’s incredible high resolution gives me the freedom to do so.”

Antonio Valente

“The main innovation of this camera is the focus bracketing, allowing for a simple and fast capture of shots needed to achieve a sharp final image at all points in post-production. There's one more feature that may seem of little interest, but especially for landscape photographers like me, it's not: the new multidirectional screen. It is very convenient and useful when taking a photo with a foreground in a very low position.”

Raj Bose

“This is my workhorse for landscape and street photography as it provides amazing fine details which are needed in landscape and cityscape photography. The other aspect of this camera that I absolutely love is the 5-axis in-body image stabilization which minimizes camera shake and it allows me to take handheld sharp photos in low-light situations. This comes in very handy in museums where tripods are typically not allowed.”

Allegra Hutton

“This camera body is now my absolute favorite for multiple reasons. First and foremost, it has a lofty 61 megapixels of resolution—the details are astounding. Not to mention everything on this camera is just faster. The IBIS (in body image stabilization) was also a huge draw—especially for a trip like this where I was often in a zodiac boat, traveling light, and unable to set up a tripod. The Sony Alpha 7R V also has an incredible ability to detect and track a subject—just another reason why it’s my preferred camera for photographing wildlife.”

Nelson Thaksakorn

“This remarkable camera has been my steadfast partner in capturing the intricate tapestry of life's moments, both big and small. From the breathtaking landscapes of nature's wonders to the intimate, candid shots of cherished loved ones, the Sony Alpha 7R V has proven itself time and again as a versatile and dependable tool. Its high-resolution sensor and cutting-edge technology have allowed me to push the boundaries of my photography, revealing the subtleties and intricacies that often go unnoticed in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.”

Craig Elson

“The 61 megapixels are a nice bonus when compared to the Alpha 1, but the features of this body that I coveted include the in-camera focus bracketing, the 8 stops of IBIS, and the 4 axis LCD screen. For all the touting of great technological features, the articulating screen might be the biggest gamechanger. The ability I now have with this camera to shoot wide angle landscapes handheld in low light and from low angles has given me so much more flexibility in my shooting style.”

Criz Quinn

“This is my second body and has proved indispensable for shooting during epic trips in case I lose my first camera. The articulating screen is a game changer for me. While in the remote island of Sumba in Indonesia earlier this year, the water level was only about a foot deep. To get the reflection shot I wanted, I had to have my camera just barely above the water. The articulating screen was super helpful for this situation as it was impossible for me to peek into the viewfinder to take the shot I wanted.”

Austin Rupp

“The Alpha 7R V is my work horse. Every photo I take goes through this camera. The AF and subject recognition in this camera make it so I never have to worry about missing the shot. The Alpha 7R V is also the first camera in the R series to introduce 4k 10bit 4.2.2. LOG recording, making it a very capable hybrid camera. On a recent portrait shoot, there was a bit of a hike before the location and I wanted to pack as light as possible. Thanks to the Alpha 7R V I was able to bring one camera body and still capture incredible photo and video. Throw in a 60-megapixel sensor, fully articulation rear screen, improved IBIS and there truly is no other camera I trust more to get the job done than the Alpha 7R V.”

Nadja Baumgartner

“...when I heard that the Sony Alpha 7R V has new integrated focus stacking, I just had to have it. This makes focus stacking much easier for me. At first I had to get used to the fact that I no longer move the camera manually, but hold it still, but now I find it ingenious. So I can create much faster and more precise stacks. In addition, the Alpha 7R V has an enormously high resolution of 61 megapixels. This allows me to crop my photos as needed and still publish them very large.”

Luke Pyrzynski

“What is most impressive is the tracking system, stabilization and improved speed. Thanks to all these systems and improvements, I feel like I'm taking each photo with sense, with taste and I know what the final result will be even in very tough conditions.”

Miry Fidalgo

“I’m fascinated with its AI tracking system, its photometry, and 61 megapixels. When I publish in top tier outlets, these three features are critical to delivering high quality work. Those 61 megapixels allow me to crop with a simple button and the photographs still have quality to publish. The Sony 7R V is not my second body, I mix it up with the Sony Alpha 1 depending on what's in front of me.”

Violetta Scott

“I've only recently switched to Sony cameras and once I shot the first shot with the Alpha 7R V there was no going back. The A7R V has completely transformed my low-light photography. Paired with my 16-35mm GM II, the autofocus speed and accuracy are game-changers when I'm shooting in challenging conditions - whether it's Milky Way shots or blue hour landscapes with dramatic shadows.”

Mickey Pierre-Louis

“This is my main photo camera. The autofocus is so quick! 61MP gives me the ability to crop my images in post without losing quality. The flip screen addition is a personal favorite feature of mine for capturing high or low angles. I love the fully customizable options and settings I can get in camera to my liking.”

Brandon Kirk

“For my beach landscapes, there’s no such thing as too much detail. As a result, I’ve always opted for Sony’s high resolution cameras from the A7R III to the A7R V. Every time I shoot with my fine art collection in mind, my goal is to create a high quality work of art that I can print large (40”x60”) and sell. In fact, I’m currently working on a 12ft by 6ft installation for a medical facility in Santa Monica. Having great detail in prints this size helps make my images more impressive and compelling.”

Chris Orwig

“These are my go-to cameras for still images. I absolutely love the dynamic range, autofocus, high resolution, and image quality. It's fair to say that I have created the best images of my life with these cameras. Why not two of the same camera?”

Pascal Maranus

“My main (and simply only) camera is the Sony Alpha 7R V. It was announced roughly one and a half months after I had switched to Sony in September of 2022, so almost from the get-go, I felt like that would have been the perfect camera for me. The improved auto-focus as well as the higher resolution just seemed like a perfect match for me.”

Vincent Lim

“As a landscape, travel and lifestyle photographer, I've always preferred the R-series of the Alpha 7 system. Currently, I use the Sony Alpha 7R V, and it’s absolutely perfect for my needs. With 61 megapixels, it’s a photographer’s dream, and I can confidently say it's the best Sony camera I’ve ever used. One feature I feel is under appreciated is the screen, which can be positioned in virtually any angle. The lightning fast autofocus and video capabilities also make this camera a true all in one.”
