What’s In My Bag: A Photo Kit For Rodeos, Western Lifestyle & More

Andrew Fisher (@andrewfisher7) is a Las Vegas-based photographer originally from San Antonio. “While my portfolio contains a little bit of everything, I'd say my primary niche is 'Western Lifestyle,’” he explains. “I shoot everything from western clothing brands to country musicians, and my favorite... rodeos! As someone who prefers to travel light(ish), I try to keep my kit fairly minimal.” Keep reading as Andrew shares what you’ll find in his kit for rodeos, concerts and more.

Shop This Kit:
Camera: Alpha 7R IV
Lenses: 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II, 85mm f/1.4 G Master II, 70-200mm f/2.8 G Master II

Cameras

Alpha 7R IV: The Alpha 7R IV comes in clutch because of its massive megapixel count. I can turn one photo into two separate photos, zoom in, enlarge, print, and maintain all the detail I need! I use this camera with the 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II

Alpha 7R III: The Alpha 7R III is essentially the same way even with a lower megapixel count. I ended up with two cameras because I dropped my Alpha 7R III in water in Japan, but managed to keep it working after adding the Alpha 7R IV to the kit (lucky me!) I use the Alpha 7R III with the 85mm f/1.4 G Master II.

Lenses

24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II: When I look around at other photographers, I tend to feel like the odd one out. Most rodeo photographers will carry a telephoto lens but I prefer to get an occasional wide angle shot.

85mm f/1.4 G Master II: I also prefer to have the f/1.4 for portraits and beautiful bokeh. The depth of field is an issue sometimes, but not enough for me to close the aperture too much.

70-200mm f/2.8 G Master II: I do carry this lens in my bag as well, but use it sparingly.

Accessories

Handheld Godox Flash: In case I want to take any portraits.

Godox Camera Mounted Trigger: So that I can angle the flash from anywhere.

Peak Design Holster-Style Clips (x2): For easy access!

This camera setup is my typical setup for concerts, western lifestyle fashion shoots and outdoor images as well. I print some of my western and landscape photos to frame as art and sell them online or display them in shops around town so I try to capture them with an artistic vision in mind. I've found that my choice of Sony camera and lenses enables that unique creative direction!
