Compared to so many photographic endeavors, portraits are different because the portrait photographer and the subject are bonded together in the process of creation, but it's the photographer who is in possession of the full complete vision. It's a unique artistic collaboration. As Richard Avedon said, “A portrait photographer depends upon another person to complete his picture. The subject imagined, which in a sense is me, must be discovered in someone else willing to take part in a fiction he cannot possibly know about.”
