In the latest episode of SeaLegacy | The Voyage, Sony Artisans of Imagery Cristina Mittermeier and Paul Nicklen along with the rest of the crew aboard SeaLegacy 1 enter the second phase of their time in the Galapagos Islands. While the first phase had the crew celebrating what it means to create a marine-protected area, the team is now on the west side of the Galapagos celebrating how much life is thriving in the habitat.
See the SeaLegacy 1 crew in the Galapagos swimming and diving among marine iguanas, flightless cormorants and more in the latest episode.
“We’re here to tell the story of animals that are unique and that are also very vulnerable,” explains Mittermeier. “Their future may actually be in the balance because of much larger forces.”
The crew explores the area’s challenging waters to capture important footage and photos of the animals that will inspire others to fuel change. “If people can fall in love with the charismatic iguanas,” says Nicklen, “the really cool recently-evolved flightless cormorants, and the adorable penguins, green sea turtles, and the big schools of fish and the fun, playful sea lions – then they’re going to fall in love with the habitat and every time they take an action, they’re deciding about type of planet they want to leave for themselves and for all species.”
