As the warm weather persists, flowers of all colors and sizes are bursting open, in a beautiful bloom. And with stunning flowers are so many incredible photography opportunities! This week, we are highlighting photographers capturing the beauty of summer through florals with their Sony Alpha cameras to inspire you to do the same. It might be in the backyard garden, or at a beautiful summer wedding. Whether you use the Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro G lens for a detailed look at petals, or you lean toward a wider angle like the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 G Master to use the flowers as a fun composition element, botanicals can elevate any image. If you’re spending the summer in the garden be sure to tag your photos #SonyAlpha for your chance to be featured and for more inspiration, follow @SonyAlpha on Instagram.
Whether it's a close-up with the Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro G or a wider floral composition with the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 G Master – botanicals can elevate any image.

Alpha Female+ grant winner Hannah Mather is a pollinator photographer and a beekeeper. The grant supported her project known as “The Pollinator Project'' where she created a photo and video project that showed the unique life and behavior of several pollinator species. Mather shot stills, video, and high-speed slow motion to give us a glimpse into the overlooked parts of nature that are all around us and help more people to slow down and to see that there is nature worth protecting right in our own backyards. We love the vibrant colors in the image below. If you’re interested in bees - her account is a must-follow!

Gina shoots relies on quite a bit of Sony gear including her Sony Alpha 7R IV, Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro G and Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 G Master.

It’s truly impressive how she finds an insect and composes an entire scene using their environment to show what they are doing. In 2021, she won our Sony Alpha Female #SonyMacro contest for her photo, “Entwined.” The image is a true macro photo that Mika made with a Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro G lens on her Sony Alpha 7R III. She used the same setup in the image below, which is truly remarkable. We love how the viewer feels like they’re in the poppy with the bee!

Aase Kjellberg is a photographer who was inspired by the lights and nature of her home in Norway. She frequently photographs her son and shares images of him on Instagram. Her lighting and quiet composition make these some of the dreamiest images of childhood we’ve ever seen! The image below is no exception, we love the detail in the tiny bee he is reaching out to. We also love the framing in this image. Aase has used the purple flowers to frame and move the viewer's eye throughout the frame. Give her a follow for more!
Josie Nelder - @josienelderphotos
Josie Nelder is a Sussex-based wildlife and nature photographer. She photographs everything from large mammals to smaller creatures and landscapes. However, she’s well-known for her bird photography. And based on the image below, we can see why! We love this image of a tawny owl shot with the Sony Alpha 7 III and Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G lens. What really makes this image even more interesting, is the sprinkle of flowers on the left hand side of the frame. The fading purple light hitting the owl compliments the burst of purple flowers beautifully.
Harrison Hodson - @harryhods
You probably didn’t know that your day was missing a video of a duckling running through flowers… but it was! This adorable video was taken by filmmaker Harrison Hodson with his Sony Alpha 7S III and Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 G Master. What a better way to celebrate summer than a clip of a little friend frolicking in the flowers! Harrison typically focuses on commercial video production, but he may have a new career path in cute little animal clips, seeing as this one has over 8 million views.
