Travel photographer & vlogger Allison Anderson shares how she captured a serendipitous moment in Namibia with her dream camera & lens combination for wildlife.

Meet Allison

I’m a content creator specializing in travel and lifestyle photography and videography. My primary platform is YouTube, where I document my travel experiences from around the world. In January 2018, I made it my New Year’s Resolution to begin solo traveling. I’ve since traveled alone all over the world, sharing my experiences through photographs and cinematic videos. I hope to encourage other women to embrace the adventure of exploring by themselves.

A Wildlife Safari In Namibia

I was in Namibia on a photography tour focusing on landscapes and wildlife. This image was taken at sunrise as we drove into Etosha National Park. The fun thing about a safari is you never know what you’ll see, and this was exciting to witness so early in the day. The term for a group of zebras is a dazzle, and dazzle us they did! We sat and watched as they crossed the road in front of us in the morning light.

A Dream Telephoto Zoom For Wildlife Photography

This was shot with the Sony Alpha 1 and Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master lens. The 100-400mm is a dream for wildlife photos and the burst shooting and high resolution of the Alpha 1 allowed me to capture the exact frame and detail I wanted.

This was taken handheld out of a window at 100mm, manual exposure, f/4.5, 1/640 shutter. It was one of those shots that felt serendipitous: the sunrise glow, the lens flare, and the zebras lined up, all perfectly framed from the seat of a vehicle.

Minimal Editing

The exposure was great straight out of camera but a few subtle color adjustments in Adobe Lightroom made the image pop. I pulled the green hues a bit more yellow and tinted the entire image slightly more magenta for the creamy beige look.
