RX100 VI: Taking It To The Streets

Alpha Collective member Paola Franqui has been shooting street photography for as long as she can remember. Capturing unique moments as they unfold and knowing they will never happen the same way again keeps Franqui inspired and on her toes. She recently hit the streets of New York City with the new Sony RX100 VI and judging by the resulting photos and we talked to her about the experience.

“I noticed that I was hardly missing any shots and that's because this camera is super sharp, and its focus is fast and accurate,” said Franqui. “I took advantage of its high-speed continuous shooting mode with full AF/AE tracking to really capture a scene.”

Franqui was able to capture close-up photos of people without being intrusive thanks to the camera’s compactness and high magnification zoom lens.

“The one thing that really surprised me was the lens range. The 24-200mm f/2.8-4.5 lens makes this camera a more versatile compact shooter. This camera is ideal for street photography. It allows you to shoot without attracting the attention of others, while still delivering great image quality,” said Franqui.

Franqui usually carries an interchangeable lens camera when she's photographing on the streets, but sometimes she just doesn’t want to carry around her α7R III and the lenses. The more a photographer can be in the background, the better. So she was really enamored with the size and how inconspicuous the RX100 VI is for street photography.

“Around an hour or so in, I realized just how much I enjoyed shooting with it,” said Franqui. “A fun camera is one that you want to use, and that was definitely my experience with the Sony RX100 VI. The zoom lens, fast autofocus, touch screen, compact size and image quality make it all that much more worth investing into one. It is a camera that I truly want to carry around with me everywhere.”
