With the release of the new Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 lens, many publications are weighing in on its superb ability along with low price point. The Phoblographer has released its latest review of the lens and Chris Gampat notes that when it comes to the lens' flaws, "honestly, not a darn thing."
This new 85mm touts flawless focus ability, beautiful images, smooth bokeh and incredible sharpness to boot. Highlighting the sharpness, Gampat states, "Oh man! Here’s where I was really blown away. This lens is crazy sharp. On the Sony α7R II, you’re getting so much incredible detail. But even on the 24MP sensor on the Sony α7 you’re getting a whole lot. It’s amazing."
Along with the sharpness Gampat makes a point to mention how light the lens is compared to the Sony 85mm G Master. "[I]t was just the perfect size to rest in the palm of my hand while I was panning around the show floor testing out the autofocus."
In conclusion, The Phoblographer has one powerful message about the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8, "This is in many ways, the absolute most perfect portrait lens for most Sony camera users." - Chris Gampat, The Phoblographer
