Summertime & The Weather Is Fine To Learn Some New Photography Tricks & Techniques

Summertime means long days in the sun, fun trips and chill vibes… it’s also the perfect time to work on your photography! Longer days means more time to shoot and all the summer trips you're planning will give you access to fresh subjects. Sony’s extensive lineup of cameras and mirrorless lenses give you the freedom to explore all kinds of photography. And to help, we’ve gathered YouTube videos from members of our dynamic Sony Community to help you get started. Mikee Rogers

So with all your summer travel, maybe you’ve been thinking about vlogging and sharing your adventures on YoutTube. If that’s the case, we suggest checking out Mikee Rogers YouTube channel. Mikee Rogers is a Filipino-American content creator based in San Diego, California. He describes himself and his channel by stating, “I’m a creative professional and AAPI creator who works from home and is obsessed with food, traveling and my two dogs. I love chatting over a good cup of coffee or a really well-made old fashioned. What you'll find on my channel: Vlogs, food, travel, lifestyle, fashion, aesthetic tech” His vlogs are fun and just feel like we’re hanging out with a good pal. In the video below, he vlogs with the new Sony ZV-1 II, so you get to see how this camera handles real world vlogging.

Lizzie Peirce

Okay so maybe vlogging isn’t your thing, but you do want to level up your travel photography skills! In that case, we recommend you check out the video below from Lizzie Peirce’s channel. Lizzie Peirce is a Toronto-based content creator with a specialty in travel based content with her Sony Alpha 7S III, Sony Alpha 7 III, Sony Alpha 7C and a range of Sony lenses. She creates videos ranging from short films to educational photography and video tutorials. She aims to inspire young creatives to start their own creative endeavors by providing them with the tips and tools to do so. In this video she shares 10 tips to level up your travel photography, wherever you’re headed this summer, this video will help turn your standard travel images to a visual story of  your journey and the place you’re visiting.

Stoked For Travel

Perhaps you’re headed to the beach this summer and plan on tearing up the waves while surfing. And since you’re spending time in the water, you could try out surf photography! If this peaks your interest, check out this video from the YouTube channel Stoked For Travel. Chris, the voice of the channel, is a surfer, videographer, and award winning travel blogger. On YouTube he shares  surf guides, travel tech reviews, and heaps of awesome tips on travel budgeting and where to visit next. We love this video where he breaks down the gear he uses for surf photography. He mentions the Sony Alpha 7 IV, Sony 24-105mm f/4 G, Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G, Sony 50mm f/2.5 G, as well as his underwater housing and much more.

Scott Tilley Photography

If you’re not headed to the beach or some iconic destination, don’t worry, there are still tons of new skills you can learn this summer! Macro photography is an immensely fun technique to hone in on and it doesn’t require extra travel. A great way to get started is with insects and flowers - which could be just in your own backyard. This video by wildlife photographer Scott Tilley breaks down some tips on macro photography with insects. Scott shoots with the Sony Alpha 7R III and in this video he uses the Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro G. He even touches on some of his technical trips including custom buttons.

Brian Lackey

Maybe this summer will be full of outdoor adventures: hiking, backpacking, and camping. These types of trips are full of incredible photo opportunities. If you’re a nature granola vibe photographer, we think you should subscribe to Brian Lackey’s YouTube Channel. Brian is a travel and outdoor lifestyle photographer based in Seattle, Washington. Some of his clients and features include Expedia, Visit Sedona and Canadian Geographic. On his channel, he shares thoughts about photography and the creative life, as well as behind-the-scenes videos from out in the field. For his own nature and travel work, Brian uses the Sony Alpha 7R IV, Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master, Sony 35mm f/1.4 G Master, and Sony 55mm f/1.8. In the video below, he shares his favorite tip on how to hone in and focus on making a few incredible shots rather than a bunch of mediocre shots.
