Take A Deep Dive Into The New Sony RX10 V

If you’re looking for the one camera that can do just about everything, look no further. The new Sony RX10 V is designed for photographers and creators who want the flexibility to capture virtually any subject without having to carry multiple cameras and lenses. In this deep dive video below, Sony Artisan Miguel Quiles shares everything you need to know about the RX10 V, including his hands-on first impressions after using the camera. Headline Feature – The 24-600mm Lens

The RX10 V features a Zeiss 24-600mm lens with an aperture range of f/2.4 to f/4, giving you the capabilities of multiple lenses in one package. “It’s like having a 24-70, a 70-200 and a 200-600mm lens all in one compact camera that can go with you anywhere,” says Quiles. That’s quite the range! The lens also includes specialized elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and features built-in optical SteadyShot for handheld stability at long focal lengths.

The lens also has excellent close-focus capabilities, allowing you to shoot macro on both the wide and long end of the lens. “On the 24mm end of the lens, it has a minimum focus distance of 1.18 inches, which is insanely close,” Quiles explains. “On the 600mm end, it has a 28.3-inch minimum focusing distance, giving you a lot of flexibility to get the perfect macro shot.”

Alpha-Series Sensor & Processing

The RX10 V enters the modern era of Alpha-series cameras – with its 20.1-megapixel 1-inch stacked CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor. “For example, it has the integrated AI processor, which gives you real-time subject recognition for humans, animals, insects, cars, trains and airplanes,” says Quiles. “And it can also do this in Auto mode – which helps you to get the perfect shot without much effort.” The new processor also brings improved image quality and better noise reduction and color gradation – a major upgrade from previous models.

Speed

The RX10 V is also extremely fast. How fast? It supports blackout-free still shooting at up to 30 frames per second. It really is the perfect all-arounder. Quiles says, “The combination of all of these features makes this camera a go-to option for a variety of different situations, from shooting sports, travel, macro and wildlife.”

Creative Looks

The RX10 V also includes 12 Creative Look presets that are available for both stills and video. “That also includes my personal favorite, FL2 preset, which makes colors in outdoor environments look absolutely gorgeous,” says Quiles.

The camera also features an expanded dynamic range optimizer (from five to eight) to help recover detail in shadows. “This will help you get the most natural-looking images in high-contrast environments.”

Video Capabilities

“While this camera boasts some impressive stills features, it also is a beast when it comes to video,” Quiles shares. He wasn’t kidding, and the proof is in his video footage – with the RX10 V you can shoot 4K60p video using the full width of the sensor, and even shoot 4K120p with a slight crop. On top of all that, you can also shoot in S&Q mode and in 10-bit 4:2:2 color to get some of the best looking video that the RX10 series has ever produced.

Physical Features & Battery

The camera includes headphone and microphone jacks, micro HDMI, USB-C, and micro USB ports. It also utilizes the Sony Z-series battery, which offers over 50% more stamina than previous models. Quiles says the body of this camera really feels like some of the other Alpha series cameras that he’s used in recent years.

“I went out and did a variety of different shoots with this camera, and I have to say I was beyond impressed,” he says. “The fact that I could go out for the day with one camera that has most of the features that I use on my workhorse cameras, while keeping things so compact and versatile, it’s something that really made taking photos a lot of fun. The autofocus is responsive and I never felt like I couldn’t find and track whatever subjects I was trying to lock onto.”
