What’s In My Bag: 1 Camera & 2 Lenses For A Nomadic Photographer

Késia Lagacé (@kesiavoyageboheme) is a nomad photographer and travel content creator who makes stunning landscape and wildlife images. She's become known for her clean, minimalistic composition. Lagacé is based in the east of Canada but the more she travels away from her home, the better she feels. “It was traveling that made me develop a passion for photography,” she says.. “Initially, I took photos for my memories as well as to show all the beauty of our planet to my loved ones. Looking back, I realized that my photos did not do justice to what my eyes saw. So, I decided to invest in a good camera and get into it more seriously.” Lagacé bought a Sony Alpha  7 III and she’s made photography an integral part of her life. “[Content creation] has become a lifestyle for me.” With all her travel, we wanted to know what her go-to gear was. Continue reading to take a look in Lagacé’s camera bag!

Késia Lagacé gear for travel, landscape, wildlife and lifestyle images

I work mainly in three specific areas of photography, that is to say: wildlife photography, landscape photography (including astrophotography), and lifestyle photography. My style is rather minimalist, refined and touches more tones of cold colors than warm.

See the gear this nomad photographer & travel content creator packs to create stunning landscape & wildlife shots with clean, minimalistic compositions.

Camera

Sony Alpha 7 III: I currently have the Sony Alpha 7 III and I must say that since this acquisition, I could not be happier. I travel a lot and I needed a light and professional camera, which corresponds perfectly to this model. Also, I often get up in the early hours of the morning (blue hour photography time) in order to capture wildlife or to avoid crowds while traveling, so I needed a camera that was known to have a good speed and low-light performance. Of course, the amazing focus and autofocus system is perfect for what I wanted to get, whether it is for focusing on an animal or a person subject. Despite the fact that the Alpha 7 III is a sensational body camera, my next purchase will probably be the Alpha 7R V for various reasons such as: the flip screen, the shutter curtain, the autofocus which was added for the birds, insects and cars, the increase in megapixels, the number of dots in the viewfinder, the video resolution which increased as well as for the improvement of the sensor.

Lenses

Sony 24-105mm f/4 G: When I travel, I need a lens that is versatile. Whether it is to obtain a photo with a wide-angle (landscape) or to use the short-telephoto zoom, the 24-105 is designed to be an ideal one-lens solution. It’s the first Sony lens I used when I got my camera and I never left it out from my bag since. It's still my go to lens.

Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G: Before buying a telezoom to start wildlife photography, I was torn between the 100-400mm and the 200-600mm. The only reason I opted for the 200-600mm is that I plan to go to Africa for a Photo Safari and/or to a polar country for a wildlife expedition one day, so I said to myself that I would surely want to use the extra 200 mm at that point, which will allow me to get as close as possible to the animals. To be honest, the bokeh is perfect when I have an animal in the foreground and the autofocus is fast. Its optical design ensures superb resolution throughout the zoom range. Although I use it most of the time for wildlife, this telezoom is also perfect for a close shot when you are at a good distance from a subject.

Approach

 & Accessories

My approach aims to respect nature, animals, and the subjects with which I work. Do not forget that in the wild nature, you are in the house of the animals and any traces of non-respect left in their environments or any inappropriate behavior towards them can have significant impacts on their behavior and their living habits. Surrounding yourself with people who share the same passion for photography and sharing your knowledge is one of the best ways to evolve in pleasure.
