What's In My Bag: A Single Camera & Lens Kit For Capturing Important Moments

Rebekka Plattner is a photographer, content creator and mom based in Northern Italy. "My work isn’t about capturing perfect images...it’s about holding onto feelings," she explains. "I don’t see photography as taking pictures, but as preserving moments exactly as they felt. The quiet ones, the soft ones, the ones that would otherwise disappear without being noticed. When I look back at my photos, I don’t want to just see what something looked like – I want to feel it again. The light, the stillness, the emotion of that exact moment. That’s why I’m drawn to details. The smallest things often carry the deepest meaning, and through my lens, I try to make them visible." Keep reading as she shares her kit for capturing important moments.

Camera

Alpha 7 III: The Sony Alpha 7 III is the camera I reach for every single time. It allows me to translate what I feel into something visible, without overthinking the technical side of photography.

My images are created in real life – in natural light, in quiet and intimate moments, often while moving through everyday life with my children. I need a camera I can fully trust, so I can stay present instead of focusing on settings.

What I value most is how naturally it adapts to my way of seeing. It allows me to move between wider storytelling frames and very intimate close-ups without interrupting the moment itself. It feels less like a tool and more like an extension of how I experience the world around me.

Lens

90mm f/2.8 Macro G: This lens completely changed the way I see the world. I’ve always been drawn to the smallest details – the ones most people overlook. With the 90mm Macro, those details become stories on their own. It allows me to get incredibly close, not just physically, but emotionally. A soft eyelash, the texture of skin, the reflection in an eye, the delicate structure of butterfly wings...all of these hold a feeling that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Some of my most meaningful images come from moments that are almost invisible at first glance: my child’s tiny hands in her first days of life, the softness of fur, the fragile beauty of nature.

This lens helps me preserve those moments in a way that feels almost like time standing still – so they can be felt again, long after they’ve passed.

Accessories

I keep my bag intentionally simple – not to limit myself, but to stay close to the moment.

A Minimal Camera Bag: Something that fits naturally into my everyday life.

Extra Batteries: Because the most meaningful moments are often unplanned.

SD Cards: Always ready to hold what I don’t want to forget.

Personal Items: Often small things connected to my children and daily life, reminding me why I pick up the camera in the first place.

For me, photography is not about creating something new – it’s about noticing what is already there, before it disappears.
