Alpha Collective member Gina Danza (@wildgina) is a nature and intimate landscape photographer and content creator. "I focus on intimate moments in nature to help connect me with my ancestors. I also use my art to dive deeper into the science of nature - particularly flora and small fauna." She is well known for her vibrant imagery and her deep connection with nature. She recently posted this series of images of a butterfly and we loved how she talked about colors and emotion in her caption stating. “It is said seeing one of these [butterflies] means love and abundance is about to enter your life.” We sat down with Danza to learn about her artistic process and how she created these beautiful images.

With a sharp Sony Alpha, a go-to macro lens & a strong connection with nature, intimate landscape photographer Gina Danza created these beautiful butterfly images.
The Scene
I was at my local butterfly garden in the hot desert. I have always been so intrigued by butterflies since my first photo in Maine last autumn. Butterflies have such a stillness yet they only live for such a short period of time. I admire their patience through life and hope I can learn and practice this through my own life. I went in not knowing I was going to create - I love the spontaneity of it all.

A Sharp Sony Alpha & A Go-To Macro
I chose my Sony Alpha 7R IV and Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro G. This is the best lens for creating the images I am seeking out when I photograph butterflies. I enjoy its beautiful bokeh and macro capabilities.
Naturally Recreating Experiences
I typically try to recreate the beauty I am seeing with my eyes. I rarely use a tripod and always use natural light. I like a challenge; a steady hand and connecting on the same rhythm as the subject is key for me. The lighting is where the lighting is when it is natural and I can do a little to fix that but it is more magical when it plays out in your favor. The butterfly that sits on the leaf in the brightest spot in the room is what sets me up for that true artistic piece.

A Little Editing Secret
I actually took a while after taking this photo to edit. I use Lightroom to get the tone and details to my liking. I enjoy bringing out the colors of the green and the texture of the wing. When I showcase my art, I want people to use their senses. Touch, smell, even taste can be involved. But, the secret to the post process? A good playlist that will meld lovely with the shot.
