Alex Cooke from Fstoppers compared the dynamic range of Sony's new mirrorless α9 against it's DSLR counterparts, the Canon 1D X Mark II and Nikon's D5.
"Sony's sensors are generally lauded for their dynamic range, so it's good to see how their latest model compares." says Cooke. He points out, while curating a chart of the cameras' performance in their dynamic range test, that "At ISO 100, the α9 and 1D X Mark II are essentially equal, with the D5 trailing noticeably. The α9 holds the advantage from about ISO 640 to ISO 3200..."
Another important note Cooke makes in the comparison of Sony's new mirrorless camera vs. the DSLRs is that "...there appears to be little-to-no penalty for using the electronic shutter. "
