Sony α Imaging Collective member Manny Ortiz uses the new 100mm f/2.8 STF for a portrait shoot and breaks down what makes this lens unique. STF stands for Smooth Trans Focus and it refers to an optical design that has a special “apodization” element in the lens. On the unique specs of this lens Ortiz states, "the 100mm STF lens has a physical aperture of 2.8 but it exposes like a 5.6... it has an apodization filter, this filter is what creates that beautiful smooth blur..."
