Philip Bloom Shoots The Northern Lights

Using the Sony α7S II, α7R II and his RX100, Philip Bloom went to Tromsø, Norway to film the Aurora Borealis. He made a "vlogumentary" about the experience, detailing the cameras, lenses and settings he used. "I was armed with two Sony α7S IIs," Bloom writes, "the main cameras for filming due to their extraordinary low-light capability and 4K recording, the Sony α7R II for mostly filming myself with its excellent autofocus ability, and the Sony RX100 V for bits and pieces."

As Bloom says, the Northern Lights have been shot by plenty of people, but he wanted to do it for himself. Also, he wanted to shoot video instead of timelapse or just stills and because he had Sony α7S II cameras wth their extreme low-light capability, Bloom would have the right tool to create spectacular real-time video footage.

Bloom was guided by a Norwegian photographer, filmmaker and friend Ole C Salomonsen

And here's one of Salomonsen's films of the Northern Lights shot with his Sony α7S and α7S II cameras.
