#SonyAlphaMeet NYC

In early October, Jose Silva (@jnsilva) & Dave Krugman (@dave.krugman) of the Alpha Imaging Collective hosted the first of many New York meetups. Breaking free from the captivity of phone, tablet and computer screens for a few hours, the photographers who responded to the meetup calls were able to make personal connections and enjoy a collaborative and creative collective experience.

Dave Krugman writes, “In an age where so much of our daily experience comes through a small screen on our phone, it's more important than ever to make time to get together in the real world. Social Media enables us to make more creative connections than ever before- but they are tenuous at best, until they are reinforced by face-to-face communication. In the photography community, this need is often fulfilled by photography meetups. Recently we got together with Sony Alpha to put this theory to the test. We announced via our Instagram channels that we were hosting a meet- and that everyone should meet us in Gantry Plaza in Queens, New York for the #sonyalphameet. With only 24 hours notice, we had over 60 people come out to get together and collaborate on creative efforts.

“As hosts, we are used to the amazing energy of these get togethers, but with so many first timers coming out, we were brought back to the feeling of attending our own first photo meets—the excitement, the energy, and the sudden understanding that there are so many new people in the world to meet who are united by a passion for photography.”

Beyond the camaraderie and the building of lasting friendships, one of the highlights of this #SonyAlphaMeet was a Sony α7r giveaway. Congratulations to @nowyourecool for winning the camera. Jose Silva writes, “His work is already super dope so I can't wait to see what he does with the new gear. Everyone go show him some love!”
