As the world's biggest soccer tournament reaches its final games, we have collected some fantastic soccer images made by Sony shooters. Sports imagery presents the challenge of photographing peak action while also telling a story with your images. When done well, you can make an emotive, visually interesting photograph. The photographers gathered on this list are a great source of inspiration for sports photographers and storytellers. In honor of the FIFA World Cup, we have collected some fantastic soccer images made by Sony shooters.

Jean Fruth - @JeanFruthImages

Sony Artisan, visual storyteller, sports photographer and founder of a non-profit organization Jean Fruth is a fantastic photographer to follow for photographic inspiration. With her Sony Alpha 1 in hand, Fruth approaches each game, from grassroots to pros with the same care and creativity, and that comes through in her work. Patrick Murphy-Racey – @murphyracey

Sony Artisan Patrick Murphy-Racey is a photographer and videographer based in Knoxville, TN. He has photographed major sporting events for over thirty years. Using his Sony Alpha 1 and Sony 600mm f/4 G Master, he was able to make this action-packed emotional image. Regardless of the event or job, Murphy-Racey produces creative and eye-catching work. Jermaine Horton - @jhsportspix

Sony Artisan Jermaine Horton aims to create images that tell a story. He is a portrait, wedding, and sports photographer based in Chicago. Using both off-camera flash and natural light, Horton creates images that are dynamic and tell his clients’ stories. The image below, made with the Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master and the Sony Alpha 7 III, is no exception. We love the peak action as well as the framing and the background that is blurred enough not to be distracting but not so much that it’s completely gone. 

Matt Hernandez - @MattHernandez

Senior portrait and sports photographer Matt Hernandez is well known for creating flawless portraits using his Sony gear and Westcott lights. He has a special focus on seniors and sports. This image below is of a senior who played soccer and we love how they are lit! The first image really stands out, flawless action. Hernandez shot this with his Sony Alpha 1. Eliécer Aizprúa Banfield is a sports photographer based in Panama with a specialty in capturing high action soccer images. His Instagram account is filled with stunning images on the field that also show the deep emotion from the players. You’ll feel like you’re standing next to him on the sidelines

Glenn Gervot - @glenn_gervot

Glenn Gervot is a freelance photographer based in Paris, France. Gervot photographs many sports including golf, baseball, and soccer. We love the series of images he posted below, they tell a fantastic story! These images were taken with the Sony Alpha 1 and the Sony 400mm f/2.8 G Master or the Sony Alpha 9 II paired with the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 G Master II. Brad Deel - @braddeel_sports

Brad Deel is a photographer based in Southwest Virginia who specializes in lit images of seniors and athletes. He has a keen marketing sense, with many of his behind the scenes videos going viral on TikTok and Instagram. The reel below shows the behind the scenes of how these portraits were made, and it is fun! The red haze adds an interesting element to the images, and it’s nice to see how that was added in. The image was taken with the Sony Alpha 7R IV

Mahmoud Hafnawy - @mahmoud.hefnawy.halawa

Photojournalist Mahmoud Hafnawy has been photographing the fifa World Cup and making some truly outstanding images. We love the series of images from the Reel below, they show the true grit, athleticism, emotions and action of the sport. Check out his account for more images!

Suvadeep Biswas is a photographer and filmmaker based in India. He does both street photography and sports photography, this Instagram account is dedicated to his sports imagery.
