Action sports commercial photographer Erin Hogue (@erinhogue) is often out in the elements documenting extreme winter sports, and for one of her latest projects she finds herself in the breathtaking Valhalla mountain range to photograph professional snowboarder Robin Van Gyn. The two head out to the mountains with a group of adventure-seeking females, and in this video you can go behind-the-scenes of their five-day camping expedition to see just what it takes to create backcountry action shots.

The video starts with a helicopter taking the group out to the middle of nowhere and dropping them off with their gear. Throughout the trip, the group is constantly checking the conditions of the snow to ensure safe routes before snowboarding them. Hogue finds the best spots for her to compose their routes in her frame and using the Sony Alpha 9 and lenses like the Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master and Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master, she captures them in action as they snowboard down the mountains.
