See How These Timelapse Photographers Bend Reality To Their Will

Timelapse is mesmerizing! Making a timelapse video involves capturing your scene at a slower frame rate, then playing it back at a normal rate, making motion appear faster than normal. It’s a fun technique that can capture moments you might otherwise miss, and with cameras like the Sony Alpha 1 and Sony Alpha 7R IV, creatives can dial in their settings to create a timelapse with a built-in intervalometer (see 10 Setup Tips For Timelapse With A Sony Camera for more about making your own timelapses). This week we’re featuring a group of timelapse photographers who have figured out how to make time fly with their Sony Alpha cameras and Sony lenses. Follow their accounts for more, tag your Sony photography posts with #BeAlpha for a chance to be featured and follow @sonyalpha for your daily dose of photography inspiration.

If Franz Mesmer were alive he'd be making timelapse videos. See how this group of creators use cameras and subtle effects to change our perception of time.

Drew Geraci – @drewgiggity

Drew Geraci isn't a timelapse photographer and cinematographer, he is THE timelapse photographer and cinematographer (he's also one of the Sony Artisan Of Imagery). Drew's Instagram account is filled with colorful and breathtaking landscapes, astroscapes and stunning timelapses. He’s so good at what he does, he has Hollywood producers reaching out to work with him (just read this article where he worked with Steven Spielberg.) Fading sunsets, busy city streets, buzzing shopping malls, racing fog – Geraci always finds a way to present life in motion. Watch the timelapse he created in his Instagram post below and check out Drew's video tutorial on making your own timelapse, below.

Mike Meyers – @mmeyers76

Mike Meyers is a Chicago-based photographer and member of the Alpha Collective. His feed is full of vibrant city and landscape images, as well as timelapses and other videos featuring motion and movement. Check out the timelapse he created with his Sony Alpha 7R IV and Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G Master below and watch the YouTube video underneath for a timelapse he created with the Sony Alpha 1 and NEW Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master II! See more of what he took with the new lens here.

Rachel Jones Ross – @rachel_jones_ross

Rachel Jones Ross is a landscape and astroscape photographer and educator based in the Canadian Rockies. The Alpha Collective member says she finds herself most inspired by snow-covered mountains and skies filled with stars. Her imagery shows the depth and vastness of our planet and beyond, helping others build their appreciation for its beauty. She also enjoys sharing her expertise with others through her photography workshops and tutorials. She and Alpha Collective member Jessica Santos (@missjessbess) often lead workshops together and next year they will be offering their first timelapse workshop: Capturing The Wild West.

Stan Moniz – @stanmoniz

Stan Moniz is a photographer/filmmaker and member of the Alpha Collective. His Instagram account puts the epic results of his adventure photography in the ocean and under the stars on display. Because he doesn’t shy away from adventure, his timelapses feature natural beauty like shining star trails or rolling waters. He created this timelapse in Death Valley National Park with his Sony Alpha 1 and Sony 35mm f/1.4 G Master lens. He’s also a photo instructor and holds workshops which you can learn more about here.

Jess Santos – @missjessbess

Photographer and Alpha Collective member Jessica Santos says she is a wanderer at heart. She adventures throughout the West, capturing landscapes, astroscapes and timelapses that put the vibrant colors of the desert on display. Santos also shares her photography expertise through exciting workshops and custom adventures. She and Alpha Collective member Rachel Jones Ross (@rachel_jones_ross) lead a number of workshops together and next year they will be offering their first timelapse workshop: Capturing The Wild West

Nash Hall – @nashhallphotography

Nash Hall is an Australia-based photographer, videographer and timelapse creator. He specializes in wedding and commercial shoots, but has a passion for landscapes and all types of photography. On his Instagram account you’ll see photos and videos from his wedding work, as well as colorful landscapes and timelapses of the beautiful surrounding area. He created this timelapse below of a beautiful sunrise in Port Stephens with his Sony Alpha 7R IV and Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 G Master.

Yasser – @ys.oma

Yasser is a freelance photographer based in Saudi Arabia. He posts beautiful images of the vibrant city of Riyadh, often including the Kingdom Tower as the main subject in his frame. Using his Sony Alpha 7R IV, he also creates and posts stunning timelapses, like the one below of the moon rising behind the tower. Follow him for more brilliant landscapes and cityscapes.
